The performance of a small-sized, oblong burner with a thick burner port and baffle plates was studied experimentally. It was found that this type of burner provided a stable blue flame. The emission rate of pollutants such as carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide was also found to be small compared with the conventional burners. The burner can use many kinds of fuel such as methane and propane as well as kerosene with a small change of the geometry, the distance between the burner port and the baffle plates. Thus it is a very flexible burner and this fact will be important in today's energy situation. The volume of this burner is 30-40% smaller than the conventional burners.
